Transgender & Non-Binary Participant Policy
- Goal
Life Time, Inc. (“Life Time”) has adopted this Transgender & Non-Binary Participant Policy to support and facilitate participation in Life Time events in a way that is both fair and inclusive. Life Time respects the personal rights and dignity of all participants as well as the integrity of competition for awards, results, and records. - General Rules
Transgender women may register to compete in the female category provided that the participant has been undergoing continuous, medically-supervised hormone treatment for gender transition for at least one (1) year prior to the date of the race. Transgender women may register to race in the male category regardless of hormonal treatment.
Transgender men may register to compete in the male category with or without regard to hormone treatment. A female-to-male transgender participant may not compete as a female if the participant has begun hormone treatment related to their gender transition (see Life Time Medical Clearance.)
Life Time offers a non-binary registration category for most events. A non-binary participant may register to compete in the gender category they identify with during race registration. In order to be eligible for podium place awards or to place in the top 10 overall of a race, Nonbinary participants who are male assigned at birth must either select the non-binary or male category during registration, unless they meet the requirements for transgender women to compete in the female category under this Policy. Nonbinary entrants who are female assigned at birth may choose the non-binary, female or male category during registration, unless they are undergoing hormone treatment related to gender transition, in which case they must select either the non-binary or male category during registration. - Policy Enforcement
A challenge under this Policy may be initiated anonymously by either another registered participant or a staff member of the Life Time event team. Any such challenge must be made in person or in writing to the Race Director at any time prior to the awards ceremony and up to 30 minutes after the end of the awards ceremony. All challenges must be initiated in good faith, consistent with the purpose of inclusion and fairness under this Policy and treated with discretion and respect for the privacy and dignity of all parties involved. Life Time in its sole discretion will determine whether there is a legitimate basis for the challenge and whether the challenge was made in a timely manner. - Challenge Review Process
In the event of a challenge, Life Time may in its sole discretion ask the participant for documentation from a qualified healthcare provider certifying that the participant has undergone continuous, medically-supervised hormone treatment for gender transition for at least one (1) year prior to the race. Transgender participants, at their option, may provide the medical documentation related to their gender transition to the Race Director prior to the race (see Life Time Medical Clearance).
Life Time retains sole discretion to enforce this Policy, including evaluating the basis, timing, and merits of any challenge. All determinations by Life Time under this Policy are final, binding and non- appealable. If it is determined through the Challenge Review Process that the participant is not in compliance with this Policy, the participant’s top 10 overall finish result and/or podium age group status will be relinquished, and the participant will not be eligible for awards or prize money associated with the relinquished placement. - Changes to this Policy
Life Time reserves the right to update or modify this Policy at any time. If we make changes, we will post the revised policy with an effective date at the top of the policy reflecting the date of the change. All changes are effective as of the time of posting. Without limitation to the effectiveness of the changes, your participation in any Life Time event following the posting of any updated or revised policy constitutes acceptance of those changes.
